Big Movers of 2005

Germany remain at the top of the rankings having won the European Championships in England with the next 4 teams also non movers.

Peru were the biggest movers after easing past Ecuador 4-0 in Colombia and beating their hosts 2-0 and 3-0 all in the same friendly tournament.

Thailand qualified for the 2006 Asian Cup after brushing Indonesia aside 4-0 and getting past India 3-2 in a play-off with all qualifiers being played in Vietnam whom they hosted and defeated 1-0 in a friendly.

Northern Ireland defeated hosts Portugal 2-1 in the Algarve Cup and also won 2-1 at home to Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier.

Vietnam thrashed the Philippines 6-1 and defeated Myanmar 1-0 in Asian qualifiers at home and also beat Taiwan 2-0 at home in a friendly tournament.

Myanmar mauled Malaysia 16-0 in an away friendly and defeated Vietnam by a single goal on neutral grounds in another friendly tournament.

Slovenia got the better of Croatia 5-3 in an away World Cup qualifier.

Austria eased 3-0 past hosts Hungary in a World Cup qualifier.

England hammered Italy 4-1 and defeated Norway 1-0 in home friendly matches and smashed Mexico 5-0 in the Algarve Cup before humiliating their Hungarian hosts 13-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

Poland swept Hungary aside 3-0 and 4-0 in away friendly matches and enjoyed 3-2 wins at home to Spain and away to Belgium in World Cup qualifiers.

Faroe Islands owe their rise mainly to their 3-0 win over Bermuda on Shetland.

Hungary who lost 3-0 and 4-0 at home to Poland in friendly matches also lost 3-0 at home to Austria and were taken apart 13-0 by the English in a World Cup qualifiers also on home soil.

Croatia sank in the rankings after suffering a 5-3 defeat at home to Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier.

Bolivia lost 3-1 to Ecuador and 2-0 to Peru in a friendly tournament in Colombia.

Portugal were beaten 2-1 by Northern Ireland in the Algarve Cup and 3-0 at home to the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier.

Ecuador were brushed aside 4-0 by Peru and could only manage a goalless draw with Venezuela in a friendly tournament in Colombia.

The most surprising results were 1-0 World Cup qualifier wins for the Netherlands in France and Spain in Finland. The highest score was Myanmar's 16-0 mauling of Malaysia in an away friendly.

Another 7 countries joined the rankings. Bermuda moved in at 97 after losing 3-0 to the Faroe Islands while Jordan moved into the 108th position after defeating Iran, Syria, Bahrain and Palestine who also moved into the rankings. With the latter two occupying the last spots in the rankings the Maldives moved into the 132nd place having shown vast improvement losing only 6-0 and 4-0 to Uzbekistan and Hong Kong respectively in World Cup qualifiers in Vietnam.
